All eyes will be on London2012’s contact less payment App - this will be the 1st large scale test of a payment App. This ones will be ‘powered’ by Samsung and Visa. More than 3000 contact less terminals will populate the various London venues. Visa’s RFID enabled payWave technology will be deployed to enable each contactless payment. » http://pointofsale.com/20120402980/Mobile-POS-News/contactless-payments-planned-for-2012-london-olympics-visa-and-samsung-report.html

PayPal is trying to revolutionize the digital wallet, while ISIS (mobile carriers and Visa) are trying to hang onto the past:

PayPal’s new digital wallet unveiled at #SXSW. “What we call the future of money … it isn’t just about sticking a wallet on a mobile phone … instead control how your money works better for you.”  See more of the demo here.

A big departure from ISIS that quote, is “not shift the way you pay (ie. the transaction), but how it is enabled…” - as presented at #SXpayment101

So the big question is will Visa and MC end up like Blockbuster?

Apple's new Mountain Lion OS is a big threat to Facebook & Microsoft - and Visa + Mastercard, I'd be watching your backs too...

This article by @gigaom does a great job building a case why Microsoft and Facebook better join forces - or Apple will eat both of their lunch.  With the recent Mountain Lion tease, we see that Apple has aspirations to own the Cloud - along with the digital wallet. So Visa and MasterCard, you better be watching your backs too…

Forget the NFC argument - look at payments behaviour

Couldn’t agree more »  ”Core payments behavior has already shifted … this is what Visa and Mastercard already know.  If Visa and Mastercard don’t convert their networks to phone-capable in the next 24 months, I fear Square, PayPal, iTunes and a myriad of others are just waiting in the wings to circumvent their rails.”

Visa Certifies RIM, Samsung, and LG Smartphones to utilize NFC payments

Visa is hitching it’s horse to NFC and is making a big push to be a major player in the Digital Wallet with it’s payWave application.  Specific RIM, Samsung and LG handsets are now officially certified for contactless payment — which is key for Visa as they look to make a big splash at the upcoming London 2012 Olympics.
